Pass Functional Skills is one of the lead providers of revision resources for Functional Skills, GCSE, and A-Level subjects. Every week in these blogs, we aim to inform you about these resources, helping students with their revision. This week’s topic of discussion is the A-level maths past exam papers

When dealing with past papers of any subject or level, the general method of revision is the same. But some do still get this wrong. Many students and education centers try to use the A-level maths past exam papers throughout the year. Which familiarises the students with the types of questions. So the past papers become useless after a while. The best way to use past papers would be to start using them towards the end of the year, close to the exam date. There is a method to this that is backed up by studies and research to ensure that you get the most out of your revision time.

The student would start by taking an A-level maths past exam paper. From here the students will mark it using the provided marking scheme, the same type that would be used to mark the actual exam. The actual mark for the past paper does not matter. It is the mistakes the student makes that are important.

The A-level maths past exam papers allow the student to see exactly where they are making mistakes, identifying weaknesses in their knowledge. From here, the student should go through a small period of intense study to remedy this gap in knowledge. Before taking another past paper that will be completed and marked the same way. This will show a clear progression in the student’s knowledge. As well as exposing the learner to new types of questions.

From here the process should be repeated until the day of the exam. Helping to ensure that you are ready for your A-Level Maths exam.
